Battle for the 2nd place is almost for Button and Alonso. but Button would be favour. Anyway, Vettel has nothing to lose except some record so Vettel-less race was not so annoying.

Yeah, looks like Button should wrap up 2nd place in the WDC. I still think Alonso was the better driver throughout the season, and did an excellent job of fighting for 2nd despite being in the 3rd fastest car on the grid.

Good win by Lewis today, good to see him looking happy for once. But Button is 28 points ahead with one race left, so Button has Lewis beat!

Yes, by a 3 pts margin at the very least. He may even beat him over the last 2 seasons if he increases the margin by 8 points in Brazil. But that’s unlikely.

Force India has consolidated its sixth position. But what for Sutil for the next season is the question…
BasCB (@bascb)
13th November 2011, 15:54
And Sutil will easily drip Heidfeld out of the top 10 if he manages another point next race.

The fact that Heidfeld is still in the top ten and two points behind Petrov, probably says something about Renault and their decision to drop him.

The reason Heidfeld is still so close to Petrov is because the car’s been awful recently. In all the races they did together Heidfeld only scored 2 or 3 points more than Vitaly.

They could even snick Renault’s 5th place, if the championship had a couple of races more… they are only 16 points behind.

If Mark’s drop behind Hammi in the championship, it’ll be a massive blow.

Why ? A top driver in a top car should’t give a monkey’s about 4th/5th as long as he can’t win the title.

5th and 7th at Brazil with Renault not scoring will give FI 5th!
lubhz (@lubhz)
13th November 2011, 19:53
Yes but it’s unlikely to happens, unless we have lots of retirements at the front of the grid. FI are the 5th faster cars, so it means p9 and 10. If we had a couple of races more it would be nice to see them catching the stumbling Renaults.

At the beginning of the year, we thought we would see a big 5, a middle 4 and a low 3.
But Renault is very much a “middle-class” team, and Williams is now almost as bad as the “new” teams.
So we have a 4-4-4…

The 130+ points difference between McLaren and Ferrari should tell people about how good a job Alonso is doing when he’s fighting for runners-up position in drivers championship.

And how badly Felipe Massa is doing this season.

or how bad massa is…..

Massa has had a pretty quiet season but i’m convinced the situation with Hamilton has actually benefited him recently.

i agree with you! Alonso has been fantasic in a bad car.

Hamilton has been mathematically beaten by Button, but third place is theoretically possible.
AndrewTanner (@andrewtanner)
13th November 2011, 20:42
@Fixy True, but he needs a disaster from Alonso for that to happen.

Button is now only 1 point shy of Vettel’s total from last year 256. So if Button finishes 9th or better in Brazil, he will score more points than the champion last year.

Hamilton is officially out of the battle of the second place, but he can at least win a race & carry his momentum for 2012.

So if Hamilton wins in Brazil, Webber will slip down to 5th.
As much as I dislike Webber, I really do feel sorry for him this year. To be THIS poor in one of the best cars F1 has ever seen…
