James Calado, Friday

James Calado made his first appearance in an official F1 session during practice.

Calado is backed by the Racing Steps Foundation, an initiative supported by 1964 world champion John Surtees to provide funding for British racing drivers and motorcycle racers who have difficulty attracting sponsorship. Their logo can be seen on his barge board.

Valtteri Bottas, Friday

Start, Italian Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel won the all-important charge to the first corner ahead of the fast-starting Felipe Massa, but locked up his front-right tyre which gave him cause for concern during his first stint.

Behind them, Kimi Raikkonen runs into the back of Sergio Perez, damaging his front wing and his prospects for the race.

Mark Webber, Italian Grand Prix

Mark Webber’s front wing shows signs of damage following minor contact with Alonso, who put a superb pass on him at the Roggia chicane on lap three.

Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa, Italian Grand Prix

In qualifying Massa’s job was to stay in front of Alonso, to give him a tow to improve his lap times. In the race it was Massa’s job to stay behind Alonso, to not take points off him, so he let his team mate past on lap eight.

Next year it will be someone else’s job.

Jules Bianchi, Max Chilton, Kimi Raikkonen, Italian Grand Prix

Following his lap one pit stop for a new front wing, last-placed Raikkonen gained four tenths of a second on leader Vettel over the next seven laps.

He lost just seven-tenths of a second passing the two Marussias, on the same lap Massa waved Alonso past, then began to close on Vettel again.

Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton, Italian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton was also mounting a comeback drive following a puncture early in the race. He caught Raikkonen’s Lotus and passed him five laps from home.

Nico Hulkenberg, Italian Grand Prix

A superb weekend for Nico Hulkenberg saw the Sauber driver qualify third, behind the Red Bulls, and finish fifth, behind the Red Bulls and Ferraris. Ten points for fifth place more than doubled his – and Sauber’s – points haul for 2013.

Looking at the picture of Calado, I can’t help but wonder why RSF doesn’t expand out to include international drivers. It wouldn’t be hard – companies looking to get into Formula 1 could back RSF, who find promising drivers to sponsor. We’d get more drivers like Robin Frijns and less drivers like Giedo van der Garde that way.

That’s the Croatian flag with the Bosnian town of “Čapljina” written on it.

  Actually, it’s flag of the Croatian Republic of Herzeg-Bosnia… long story. Croatian coat of arms is different.

Aha, you’ve seen through Jenson’s disguise. Checo didn’t recognise him in the flat cap engineering his car (he’d been practising on some old McLarens, if you saw the BBC video with Mika Hakkinen) – no wonder JB beat him in the race!

That paragraph on Alonso seems to me like hatred.

@shreyasf1fan There are three paragraphs which refer to Alonso. None of them express “hatred” and I don’t see how anyone could take them that way.
